Following the sell-out success of its 2003 production of Dracula, Newcastle-based theatre company StageFOCUS returns to the Castle Keep with its acclaimed stage version of Bram Stoker’s classic vampiric chiller.
Festering in a dark and filthy cell in the depths of a Victorian lunatic asylum, the deranged Edward Renfield recounts the story of his inhuman master Count Dracula and the trail of death, destruction and madness he left when he once polluted these shores. Tired of his crumbling castle and his peasant-filled lands in Transylvania, the undead Hungarian nobleman moves to England in search of fresh blood to quench his insatiable thirst. Blessed with supernatural powers and cursed with damnation, he murders without remorse and punishes those who stand against him with unimaginable torments.
Performed in the ancient surroundings of the Castle Keep, and boasting a sinister soundscape from Colin Stephenson (Skinny Blue), StageFOCUS' production treads a line between artistic innovation and reverence for Bram Stoker’s original text, making it a must-see event for aficionados of bloodstained theatre.
